Jean-Luc Verna

Born in 1966 in Nice, Jean-Luc Verna lives and works in Paris. He studied at the Villa Arson and today teaches drawing. Actor (for Brice Dellsperger), performer (for Gisèle Vienne), singer (in the group I Apologize), this 'multi-disciplinary' artist combines drawing - the 'backbone' of his work - with photography and sculpture. He has created a rock and roll universe laced with mythology and references to the history of art reproducing well-known poses in a series of nude photographs. His drawing is enlarged, photocopied, manipulated and twisted, undergoing constant transformation in the image of the artist's own pierced and tattooed body - A star with the face of his idol Siouxsie Sioux on his thigh. A living canvas, like paper (that he prefers aged and used) or walls. His work appears in the collections of various FRAC (Upper-Normandy, Pays de Loire) and the Pompidou Centre in Paris.
