Slide Cross XXL, 2014
Gauthier Leroy was born in 1967 in Valenciennes, where he still lives and works. His sculptures ?trap? our popular or learned folklore in resin or plaster. The artist creates disparate combinations of words, images and everyday objects. His ?mental road-movie? takes him through the Wild West, music, the history of design (Jean Prouvé) or architecture (Frank Lloyd Wright). Taken out of their normal commercial surroundings, cans of beer and cigarette ends are arranged in ikebana with a constructivist air. ?Homemade? stories, humble as everyday life yet delicate and amusing. His work has been exhibited at the Piscine de l?Art et de l?Industrie in Roubaix in 2012 and at the Palais de Tokyo (Paris) in the framework of the Foundation Pierre Bergé?s ?Modules? in 2013. His work is in the collections of the Lower-Normandy and Nor-pas-de-Calais FRACs.
