Christian Robert-Tissot

Christian Robert-Tissot was born in 1960 in Geneva where he lives and teaches at the HEAD. His work is rooted in and explores language and he produces word-images that sit between Pop Art and abstraction. Fashionable expressions and advertising slogans are transformed into monuments, sculpted in three dimensions, painted on the walls of buildings or suspended within the exhibition space. Playing on the use of fonts (colors and size) and typography, the artist “messes with” language; playing with our perception of it and it’s implied potential. Robert-Tissot has worked on numerous projects involving public spaces. His work has been exhibited at the Confort Modern in Poitiers (2005), the Swiss Cultural Center in Paris (2009) and on several occasions at the MAMCO in Geneva, which also boasts a collection of his works along with the Consortium in Dijon and several FRACs across France.
