The apparent stability of the others # 24, 2015
Born in 1975 in the Midi-Pyrenees region of France, Abdelkader Benchamma lives and works between Montpellier and Mexico City. He is an emerging figure in the contemporary drawing scene and his art seeks to represent “flux” and “ altered states of matter”. Seen as transformational spaces, pages or walls accommodate his organic drawing, where black (ink or felt-tip) and the white of the paper (held in reserve) are the principal colours. His curiosity towards astrophysics and science fiction is translated through series of implosions, reversals and expansions as can be witnessed in the album Random, produced by the comic book publisher L’Association, where man is confronted by both physical and/or natural phenomena beyond his comprehension. His work was exhibited at the Carré Saint-Anne in Montpellier in 2014, as well as the FRAC in Auvergne in 2015. His art figures in several French public collections (FRAC Languedoc-Roussillon, Museum of Fine Art, Orleans) and at the Mathaf – the Arab Museum of Modern Art in Doha, Qatar.
