Sans titre, 2015
Julien Tiberi was born in Marseille in 1979 and lives and works in Paris. For the artist, the history of drawing represents an inexhaustible reservoir of materials, subjects and interpretations. On one hand we might find a Mexican landscape scraped from a sombre background, on the other perhaps an engraved mirror or 19th century caricatures. Above all, Tiberi enjoys experimenting with different techniques and creating a mix of a whole variety of references. His style is appropriated from other artists and digested in a practice he considers as a “system of extended memory”.
At the Villa Annemasse in 2013, he put together “a solo exhibition as a duo” together with Aurélien Mole, around the fictional character Sir Thomas Trope. In 2011, his work was exhibited on several occasions by the Semiose Gallery and the Palais de Tokyo in Paris. His work is also present in the collections of the CNAP (The National Centre for Plastic Arts), the Pessac Artothèque and the FRACs PACA and Languedoc-Roussillon.
