Gérard Fromanger - color me, 2020
When it comes to colors, Gérard Fromager knows his way around. This most pop and popular of French artists is delighted to give us a lesson. In his work, he loves using bright, primary colors to depict the world, especially the fascinating spectacle of the street.
When creating portraits of some of the artists who have preceded him, he starts with a hypothetical line roaming through the faces as his drawings emerge like bubbles bursting across the page in electrified strokes of his pen. Before taking up our own colors, let's listen to the master's advice: "First, have a good long look. That's how everything begins. Look and observe, before even thinking of putting pen to paper."
