Piero Gilardi

Piero Gilardi was born in Turin, Italy, where he lives and works. He is considered as the co-founder of the Art Povera movement and advocates “liveable” emotional art, which is inseparable from life itself. His Tapis Nature series, recreates a vision of landscape in polyurethane foam. His production was put on hold for 12 years through his involvement in “relational art” and various militant activities. He actively promotes artistic and social ecology and in 2008 he founded the Parco d’Arte Vivante (The Living Art Park) in Turin. Gilardi has recently widened his artistic outlook by taking up drawing and producing interactive multimedia installations. He was exhibited at the Nottingham Contemporary (UK) in 2013, the Castello di Rivoli (Italy) and the Van Abbemuseum (NL) in 2012, the CCC in Tours (France) in 2010 and at the Semiose Gallery in Paris in 2009. His works can be found in both French (Pompidou Centre, FNAC, FRAC) and international collections (Galleria Civica of Modern & Contemporary Art in Turin, the MAMCO in Geneva, the Modera Museet in Stockholm, the Tamayo Museum in Mexico City and the MoMA in New York).
